Why should I chose an adult? Adult neutered cats are normally much calmer than kittens and are for sure much more educated. The have less needs, are more equilibated and need much less attentions than the young ones. Moreover the have already gone trought the teenage period that leeds the youngster to get often into troubles. In other words they are realaxed and relaxing cats. Last but not least is money. If a purebreed kittens with adeguate warranties (FELV, FIV, HCM, PKD, vaccinations, pedigree) will very rarely cost you less than 700 euros to which you will have to add the neutering price, a young neutered adult with the same documents and the same warranties will have a much lower cost (100 / 200 euros) if any.
Why is an adult given away for adoption? When a cat ends it show career or is not anymore on a determinated selection porgram, he/she is usually given in adoption to a family that makes a request for him/her and which wants to take care of him/her. Praxis wants that the cat is neutered before leaving and that he/she is given to a family wich will fit his/her temperament and style of life. Some breeders give the adults away for free while other ask for a simbolyc amount. This practice may lead to heavy critics: who has never been breeding in his/her life tends to accuse breeders of taking advantage of their cats and the abandoning them when they are not anymore needed. But, before accusing, it should be considered that a breeder should not collect cats, but he/she should select cats in order to improve the breed. In order to really make selection and to contribute at a breed evolution and maintenance it is strongly needed a continuous new blood. Otherwise the breeder will be only producing kittens, always the same kittens son to the same parents. If a breeder would keep all neutered cats soon or later he/she will bump in overpopulation problems that will bring to stress and illnesses. That is why chosing to leave a neutered cat to ha family in wich he/she will be spoiled and pampered is a choice of pure responsibility. And you can bet that separation from a good friend is something that needs much more than courage… Don’t you believe? You should try.
Will the cat have problems to get along with the new family? Turkish ANgora cats are very social, they trust humans and always look for human attention. For such a cat afamily change is not really a big trauma, if the new family istakes care of his/her needs, keeps his/her routine and life style, spoils and pampers him/her and dedicates a few minutes each day to play with the cat. Remember that a cat which comes from a cattery usually is used to a close contact with people and he/she is used to get attentions and cares. In the meanwhile he/she has always been forced to share the human times with all other cattery members and therefore he/she will be incredibly happier and more satisfied with a family that is all is/her own!
