Allevamento Angora Turco ~ Turkish Angora cattery

Temperament

hiss.jpg Turkish Angora are usually very sensitive, intelligent and sweet cats. Because of this it is extremely important for the psicological growth of the kittens that an accurate socialisation takes part in the first weeks of kittenhood. Therefore we grow our kittens and adults surrounding them of attentions, cares, and pettings. Doing so we obtain sweet well-balanced cats. We also choose our breeders for their temperament and we never accept cats from bloodlines that have given aggressive cats. Unfotunatly it is actually possible to see aggressive and bad tempered Turkish Angora, in Italy and abroad. This happens most often at show rings. Such cats should not be bred nor exibited. Happily our cats do not suffer from this problem. By us temperament is as important as type.

Health

In our minds health comes first. In order to allow our cats to have a long happy life, we periodically test them to ascertain that our breeders are:
FELV negative - feline infectuous lecemia is an contagious lethal illness
FIV negative - also known as cats’ AIDS, another contagious lethal illness
PKD negative - a kidney hereditary disease, very common in persian related breeds and therefore possible, even if not reported, in Turkish Angora
HCM negative - an hereditary cardiopathy common in all cat breeds an in alley cats. Its precence in Turkish Angora breeds is quite commomn and well documented
hearing - as deafness is somehow hereditary - eveen if it is not yet clear how this is transmitted - all our whites are audiometrically tested with BAER (the only method that may ascertain bilateral hearing).

Reacently our cattery has joined two important projects for our cats health and psicology:
Welfare Quality
, is a program aimed to develop some guide lines to encourage and develop a kind of breeding centered not only on breed cats reproduction but also on cats phisical and psicologial health within everyday life in the cattery, in full respect of cats ethologic nature.
Osservatorio italiano HCM felina,
this projecect was first established for the Maine Coon breed by the bitalian Maine Coon Club. After a very short while the project has involved all the breed that can suffer from hypertophic Cardiomiopathy. The project aims to coordinate and standardise clinical, genetic and ecocardiographic data collection in Italy. All collected data will be elaborated to porduce both to breeders and veterinarians common guide lines for HCM management.

Beauty

Vanessa in nomination, Magnificat, RomaEverybody wants beautiful cats, and every breeder dreams a show starlet cat. We are not different from everybody else… we do choose our cats from the best european and american bloodlines according to FIFé standard and we take both kittens and adult to FIFé shows in order to valuate our breeding program. Many of our kittens fit the standard enought to be accepted between judgements rings and this is, by itself, already a pretty nice thing. As a personal taste we do prefer and breed traditional blue eyed and odd eyed whites, silver and smoke in all color varieties.
