Negli anni ‘60 l’amore per l’Angora rinaque in Inghilterra, dove si cercò di ricreare questo splendido animale, selezionando gli esemplari bianchi a pelo lungo nati da genitori Orientali. Questi Angora ricreati mostravano (e mostrano) le loro origini orientali nella forma decisimante cuneiforme del muso e nella posizione delle orecchie. Per molti anni questa razza (ora nota Orientale a pelo lungo) fu chiamata a sua volta Angora o Angora Inglese, creando non poca confusione. Pressochè contemporaneamentei signori Grant, in viaggio in Turchia, si innamorarono di questi splendidi mici nello zoo di Ankara e ottennero il permesso dal governo turco di importare una coppia di Angora bianchi negli USA. Yildiz e Yildizick, così come Mavis e Yaman che li seguirono, sono alla base dei nostri gatti attuali. La razza fu riconosciuta ufficialmente in America nel 1973, e le varieta’ colorate vennero accettate nel 1978.
La CFA dopo aver riconosciuto la razza, non iscrisse gatti non provenienti dallo zoo di Ankara. Purtroppo negli anni novanta il Governo turco inasprì di molto la protezione e i limiti all’esportazione degli Angora Turco dal suo zoo. Fortunatamente alcuni gatti furono importati in Russia da Istanbul, e alcuni allevatori europei importarono (e importano) gatti da allevatori privati turchi. Questo ha consentito di ampliare il numero di gatti disponibili, rispetto al ristrettissimo gruppo iniziale, mantenendo sana e forte la razza.

During the 60’s in England a new love for the Turkish Angora arose. In this country some breeders tried to re-create that beautiful animal by selecting white longhaired cats accidentally born from Oriental cats. These artificial angora showed and still show their oriental origin in the shape of the head and in the ears position, For many years this breed had been called Angora or British Angora creating a great confusion. Almost in the same years the Grant, that were travelling in Turkey, felt in love with the gorgeous cats form Ankara oo and obtained ther turkish governament permission to import in the States a couple of white cats. Yildi and Yildizik, as mavis and Yaman that followed, are in the beginning of every actual bloodline. The breed was officially recognised in USA in 1973 and colored varieties were accepted in 1978.
CFA after having recognised the breed did not allowed registering cats that did not belong from the Ankara zoo. Unfortunatly in the 90s the Turkish governament restricted the protection and the export limits of turkish cats from the zoos. Luckily some cats were imported in Russia from Turkey and some european breeders imported (and are still importing) cats from privete breeders in Turkey. This has permitted to widen the number of available cats, respect the very little number of first cats, maintaining the breed healthy and strong.
